The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, now known as the Yakubu Gowon University, has approved the appointment of Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi as the institution’s new substantive Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Fawehinmi, who is currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian British University, will assume his new role for a five-year, non-renewable tenure effective Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The announcement of Prof. Fawehinmi’s appointment brings to an end the search for a new helmsman to pilot the affairs of the prestigious Federal University.
His wealth of experience, including his current role at the Nigerian British University, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the administration of Yakubu Gowon University.
