The ambition of Senator Abdulazeez Yari to clinch the Senate President slot got a boost with the commendation from former President Muhammadu Buhari during a visit to the former president in his home in Daura, Katsina state by the senators-elect
The senators-elect backing the ambition of Yari for the senate president cutting across different political parties accompanied him to visit the former President in Daura on Sunday.
“I thank you very much and I congratulate you that your constituency identified you and agreed that you should come up. We have succeeded because if we have not, how can 10 sitting governors lose seats for the Senate”, the former president said.
Buhari attributed the success of his administration to the cooperation from the National Assembly and urged the lawmakers to support the current administration for progress.
In his remark, Yari said:”We are here Sir to congratulate you for the service to our nation for the past eight years and completing the term,”
One of the senators-elect who visited Buhari on Sunday in the company of Yari, Kawu Sumaila while speaking on behalf of his colleagues said they visited the former president to congratulate him on the successful accomplishment of his eight year tenure as president.
According to Sumaila, Senators-elect led by Senator Abdulazeez Yari were in Daura to thank and commend former President Muhammadu Buhari for his services and commitment to the Nigerian project.
“Our delegation comprises the amalgamation of different political parties who endorsed Senator Abdulazeez Yari as our candidate for the Senate Presidency coming June 13th inshaAllah,” Sumaila said. .
Sumaila, a Senator-elect on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP from Kano state, just like many of his colleagues across party lines, believe that Yari is the best suited for the job of Senate President and have resolved to back him to lead the Senate.
“We are confident that with the huge bi-partisan support base of Senator Yari, it is only a matter of time that he will surely emerge as the Senate President on June 13 by the grace of God.,” Sumaila said.
