Yero threatens to publish names of defaulting contractors

Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has threatens to publish names of contracting firms, their directors and chairmen who were awarded contract in Kaduna State but absconded without executing the contract.

Governor Yero stated this in a speech during the 14th Kaduna State Productivity Day and honours awards held in Kaduna yesterday. According to him, it is becoming embarrassing and disheartening that contractors who bids and awarded contracts with mobilization fees by the government of his former boss, Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa  absconded without doing the job.

The Kaduna State governor also added that these same contractors especially those who are supposed to construct or rehabilitate some link roads in the state are now giving different excuses for moving away from the sights.

“They even went to the level of saying that they were not adequately mobilized by my late boss forgetting that everything is documented and as it is now, I have been push to a level to act and publish the names of the contractors involved and at the same time get relevant agencies to get our money from them if they cannot continue with the project.

“This is not a matter of witch-hunting anybody but rather making people to be reasonable and use the people resources entrusted to them judiciously.  If you’re mobilized to construct a road or any other project by Kaduna Stage government the fact that a sad event occurred that the man at the helms of affair passed away; that is not the end of the contract because it is between the firm and Kaduna State.

And for your own interest it is better you fulfill your own part of the contract to safe your organization the embarrassment because Kaduna State will not hesitate to public the names of defaulting contractors,” Yero said.

The guest lecturer, Prof. Ibrahim Malumfashi in his paper titled: “Productivity and creativity for sustainable peace and security”, said the nation has to be honest with itself to accept that there is a dwindling culture of productivity in workers and the institutions employing them, whether they are public or private sector employers.

“This to my understanding largely has to do with the way relations between the employer and employee are organized in and; the structure where the employer is always at the top of dictating how such relations should be.
