National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda on Saturday said that mounting concerns that the governor of Rivers state, Sim Fubara was yet to appear before the Screening Committee for the forthcoming primary election.
Yilwatda who was addressing newsmen after the Saturday edition of the exercise said contrary to insinuations, Fubara was not the only governor yet to appear for the mandatory screening.
He noted that a few other governors like Abdulraman Abudulrazaq of Kwara state who is also running for the senatorial ticket has not been screened.
“Why are you singling one governor out of many? He is not here. But why single him alone? The governor of Kwara has not come also. So three governors have not come. You don’t single out one person who has not come. Why is it that three governors have not appeared before us?
“That is why I am saying; why Rivers alone when three governors have not appeared? All of them have their excuses and reasons why they areThat is why I am saying why Rivers alone when three governors have not appeared? All of them have their excuses and reasons why they are not appearing. We know they are chief executives of their states and have state issues to attend to.
“So any governor who has issues to attend to, Kwara, Ebonyi and River state we excuse him. Governors are chief executives; they are commanders. Anytime you are free, you call the screening committee, we give you a room, you come at your will and convenience, and we will screen you”.
It could be recalled that the special interest on Governor Fubara may not be unconnected to the crisis that has rocked Rivers state since the governor fell out with his erstwhile godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, who has insisted that the governor will not be reelected.
