Yobe state government has expressed appreciation for the achievements being made in the state health sector because of the assistance the United Kingdom has been rendering to the state, especially in the area of reducing maternal, newborn and child mortality.
The state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Bello Kawuwa, who represented the state governor,
Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam, made the commendation in Damaturu, the state capital on the occasion of receiving health equipment and drugs worth N300 million, donated by the United Kingdom under the MNCH 11 program, a partnership program between The UK and Yobe state government.
He revealed that the MNCH program has assisted the state, not only in the area of supply of medical equipment and drugs, but in the training of medical staff and working with the state legislative arm of the government in the formulation of policies that guides the state in the achievement of the desired objective.
Earlier speaking during the handing over ceremony of the consignment from UK, the MNCH 11 national team leader, Jabulani Nyenwa, also commended the Yobe state government for following the guideline of program implementation, adding that from 2014 to date, Yobe state has been a critical partner in the implementation of MNCH program geared towards improving maternal, newborn and child’s health.
He, however, urged the government to ensure effective monitoring over the supply so that the materials go to medical facilities where they are needed and ensure accountability and transparency in the use of the donated materials.
