As part of its ongoing Damaturu Urban Renewal Programme, the Yobe State Government has directed traders operating at the old Bayan Tasha market to relocate to the newly constructed modern market along Potiskum Road.

This was a decisive move to decongest the area and improve urban planning.

The resolution was one of the key decisions reached at the Yobe State Security Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 22nd July, 2025, and chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana.

Held at the Government House in Damaturu, the high-level meeting brought together heads of security agencies to assess the prevailing security situation and enhance strategies for protecting lives and property.

During the meeting, the Governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to public safety and urged citizens to support security efforts by providing timely and useful information to relevant agencies.

In a major urban renewal decision, the Council resolved to ban all forms of petty trading in the Bayan Tasha area, citing reports that some traders had refused to relocate despite the availability of stalls in the new market.

The Governor stressed the importance of the relocation, noting that it would enhance security, sanitation, and urban order within the state capital.
