The Yobe State Government has highlighted major achievements recorded under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration over the past seven years, citing significant progress in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and human capital development.
Briefing journalists in Damaturu on Friday as part of activities marking Governor Buni’s seven years in office, the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, said the administration has been defined by continuity, recovery, consolidation, and transformation since assuming office in 2019.
According to him, Governor Buni’s governance philosophy is anchored on peacebuilding, institutional strengthening, economic empowerment, human capital development, and strategic infrastructure investment aimed at improving the lives of the people.
Dr. Goje described the restoration of peace, security, and public confidence as one of the administration’s most significant achievements.
He said the government adopted a comprehensive security strategy that combines operational support, institutional collaboration, community engagement, peacebuilding, and humanitarian recovery, noting that sustainable development cannot thrive without security.
The SSG added that the administration has prioritised the welfare of security personnel through financial assistance to wounded officers and the families of fallen heroes, provision of accommodation for senior officers, and allocation of land under the Armed Forces Casualty Trust Fund Housing Scheme.
According to him, these interventions have contributed significantly to restoring stability, supporting community recovery, and rebuilding public confidence across the state.
“Today, economic activities have expanded, schools are functioning, markets are thriving, and communities previously affected by insecurity are experiencing renewed growth and optimism,” he said.
On infrastructure, Dr. Goje said the sector remains one of the defining pillars of the Buni administration, with over 500 kilometres of roads constructed, rehabilitated, and upgraded across the state in the last seven years.
He noted that the investments have improved transportation networks, enhanced access to markets and social services, stimulated economic activities, and strengthened connectivity between urban and rural communities.
The SSG identified the ongoing Damaturu Flyover and Underpass Bridge as a flagship project that symbolises modernisation and urban transformation in the state.
He added that the various road projects executed by the administration have improved agricultural access, facilitated trade and commerce, reduced travel time, and stimulated economic growth across communities.
Speaking on education, Dr. Goje described the sector as a central component of the administration’s development agenda.
He said the government has constructed seven mega schools across the state, expanded facilities at Yobe State University, established the College of Medical Sciences, strengthened nursing and midwifery education, upgraded technical institutions, and invested heavily in science, technology, and vocational education.
The administration has also promoted girl-child education, expanded access to quality learning opportunities, and improved educational infrastructure across the state.
According to him, more than 48,000 students currently benefit from the state government’s scholarship programme in universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, nursing institutions, and specialised training centres within and outside Nigeria.
Dr. Goje noted that the investments are helping to develop the skilled workforce required to drive the state’s future economic growth and competitiveness.
On healthcare, the SSG said the sector has witnessed remarkable expansion under Governor Buni’s leadership, with significant investments in healthcare infrastructure, personnel development, and access to quality medical services.
He maintained that the gains recorded in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development over the past seven years have laid a solid foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity across Yobe State.
