Yobe Has Suffered Enough — AIG Launches North-East Security Tour
….. Seeks Stronger Community Intelligence
By Muhammad Maitela, Damaturu
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, Zakariya Fera, has declared that residents of Yobe State have endured enough hardship from criminal activities, urging communities to take a more active role in providing intelligence to security agencies.
Fera made the remark on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to Mai Mala Buni at the Government House, Damaturu, as part of his operational assessment tour of the North-East.
The AIG said the tour was ordered by the Inspector-General of Police to evaluate security operations across the region and assess compliance with directives issued by the police leadership amid ongoing security concerns nationwide.
“We are here to witness firsthand the realities that citizens experience daily and to assess the efforts of our officers on the ground,” he said.
According to him, the visit is designed to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and state governments while identifying operational gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Fera commended the Yobe State Government for its continued support to the police and pledged sustained cooperation with the state command to consolidate security gains.
He stressed that the fight against crime cannot be won by security agencies alone, noting that criminals often operate within communities.
“The people of Yobe have suffered enough from criminal activities. They deserve to live in peace and security. The success of the measures we have put in place depends on the active participation of all stakeholders,” he added.
Representing Governor Buni, the Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Goje, described the AIG’s visit as timely and significant.
He said the assessment tour reflects the commitment of the police hierarchy and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening national security and deepening cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments.
Goje conveyed the appreciation of the Yobe State Government to the Nigeria Police Force for its sacrifices and dedication in safeguarding the nation’s peace and stability.
He noted that Governor Buni’s administration has consistently prioritised security, maintaining that sustainable development and economic growth can only flourish in a peaceful environment.
According to him, the state government has continued to support security agencies through operational assistance, investment in security infrastructure, improved coordination and sustained collaboration.
He also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel and their families, describing support for security agencies as both a moral obligation and a strategic investment in national security.
Goje attributed the relative peace being enjoyed in many parts of Yobe to the combined efforts of security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents.
He, however, called for greater support from the Police High Command through intelligence-led operations, enhanced operational capacity, strategic deployment of personnel and expanded community policing initiatives.
The SSG further commended President Tinubu’s efforts toward stabilising the North-East, saying the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda has reinforced initiatives aimed at improving security, consolidating peace and accelerating economic recovery in the region.
