As part of its efforts to uphold moral standards and promote peace within communities, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission has destroyed 243 cartons of alcohol and 100 gallons of locally brewed illicit liquor, popularly known as “Shock and Die” (Sukudai).

In a statement signed by the information officer of the Commission, Adamu Muhammad, said the exercise, conducted in Damaturu, was part of broader initiative to enforce laws prohibiting the consumption and distribution of alcohol in the state.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, stated that the operation aligned with the commission’s mandate to enforce laws promoting decency and protecting societal values.

“Alcohol consumption poses a threat to public health and social harmony. Its distribution in the state remains prohibited under existing laws,” he said.

Dr. Yahuza reiterated the Commission’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence, justice, and societal reform, noting that Hisbah had also mediated and resolved several disputes during the recent operation.

He urged residents of Damaturu and the state at large to continue supporting the Commission’s efforts in maintaining moral order and public decency.
