The Yobe State Government has announced an ambitious plan to completely transform Yobe State Television (YTV) and the Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC), backed by the full support of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The announcement came during YTV’s 30th-anniversary celebration, where the State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, declared the “era of excuses is over.
“We want to not just talk, but walk the talk.” Commissioner Bego stated, emphasizing a new commitment to bringing the state-owned media in line with international standards.
“With the support of His Excellency, we will see what we can do to improve the services of YBC and YTV.”
To accelerate the overhaul, Governor Buni has approved the immediate formation of aa technical working group solely tasked with the modernization of both broadcasters.”
The Commissioner also revealed that the Governor has approved the conversion of casual and volunteer staff into full-time, permanent civil servants.
This followed a previous exercise that regularized about 40 staff members.
“Congratulations to all the men and ladies who will be beneficiaries,” Bego said, a statement met with applause from the audience of past and present staff.
Earlier, the General Manager of YTV, Comrade Yusuf Alhaji Isah, recounted the station’s history since its test transmission began on October 26, 1995.
