The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has assured transparency and accountability regarding the distribution of N1.4 billion Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to benefiaciaries of flood victims and vulnerables in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Mohammed Goje, gave the assurance on Monday that every effort is being made to ensure that no one is left behind or shortchanged in the disbursement process.
He expressed satisfaction with the composition and disbursement mechanism adopted by the state government through community engagement involving traditional leaders, women groups and youth representatives.
Goje said the Governor Mai Mala Buni administration was intensifying efforts to mitigate flood disaster hardship in impacted communities across the state in the medium, short and long term interventions program.
He said the Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance initiative is part of a broader effort to alleviate the hardships faced by flood victims and vulnerables across the state.
“As directed by Governor Buni, SEMA has been actively distributing food, non-food items (NFI), and hygiene kits to support the victims and the vulnerables.
“The cash support disbursement will follow a thorough validation and verification process to be conducted by SEMA through engagement with the community, the Flood Adhoc Committee, and other government officials.
“The Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance forms part of Governor Buni’s broader flood response strategy, which has already seen similar distributions in the past.
“The cash support combined with ongoing distributions of food, NFI, building materials, and hygiene kits, demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive relief to those in need.”
