As the Yoruba Community Abuja on Saturday elected twenty-two officials to pilot the affairs of the community for three years, the Otunba of Yoruba Community in the FCT, Chief Dr. Wasiu Tunwase, has urged the government to expedite action on the provision of basic necessities of life for the city citizenry.
Tunwase, who gave the charge while speaking to Peoples Daily correspondent after the election in Abuja, particularly urged President Bola Tinubu to deem it necessary to improve the standard of education in both basic and institutions of higher learning.
He appealed to Tinubu to redouble his efforts to provide dividends of democracy for the people who elected him in power, and commended him for focusing on construction of roads.
Otunba, however, called on the aggrieved members of Yoruba community to join hands with the newly elected officials to move their community forward in Abuja and its environs.
Earlier, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Dr. Barr. Abdullahi Lawal Muhammad described the conduct of the election as free, fair and credible.
Lawal urged members of the Yoruba community to co-operate and support the present elected officers for the sake of peace and unity in the FCT.
On his part, the newly elected President of the Yoruba community in Abuja, Mr. Dauda Murana, appealed to the entire Yoruba to come together, in order to speak with one voice for the overall development of the community in the territory.
Murana also used the occasion of the election to call on the government of the day to reduce the prices of foodstuffs to enable the less privileged ones to feel the impact of the government.
The election, which was conducted in the residence of the paramount leader of Yoruba community in Abuja, Oba Olusegun Salau received the attendance of some Obas (Chiefs) of Yoruba community.
