The Nigeria Youth Organisation has congratulated veteran musician Sydney Sparrow on his appointment as Acting National President of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group’s National Leader, Ambassador Dr Duke Alamboye, described Sparrow’s appointment as timely and well deserved.
Alamboye said Sparrow’s decades-long career in music and experience in artistes’ management positioned him for the role.
“We celebrate his remarkable music career spanning decades and his expertise in music and employability management,” he said.
The youth organisation also cited Sparrow’s previous role as Federal Capital Territory Governor of P-Man, noting that it demonstrated his capacity for leadership and mobilisation within the music industry.
According to Alamboye, Sparrow’s exposure to Nigerian politics and social life, alongside his standing in the music world, would be an asset to the association.
He expressed optimism that Sparrow’s leadership would improve the welfare of musicians and strengthen the organisation nationwide.
“We believe he will leverage his wealth of experience to drive the objectives, values and aims of P-Man,” the statement read.
The group said it was open to partnering with the new acting president to reposition P-Man as a leading professional body in the creative sector.
It urged Sparrow to engage relevant ministries and stakeholders to advance the interests of Nigerian musicians and promote music as a tool for national unity and development.
Sydney Sparrow was recently appointed Acting National President of P-Man following leadership changes within the association.
