The Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Dr Yishawu Azeezat, on Tuesday said that the mandate of the newly inaugurated parliament would be centered on youth development, inclusion and gender equality.

Azeezat said this during a news conference in Abuja where he advised the youths not to be tagged for only bad news, adding that a sizeable number of them are currently building global solutions for national development.

She said that as youths, no fewer than 50 per cent of the nation’s population had been encouraged to participate  in governance.

“This begins with the registration on the voters register of over one million Permanent Voter Card  of youths in the coming general elections,” she added.

She commended the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and President Muhammadu Buhari, for the proactive move to evacuate stranded students and Nigerians in Ukraine, following the invasion of the country by Russia.

She also called on ASUU and the Federal Government to sheathe their swords and embrace peace and dialogue to end the protracted national warning strike by ASUU.
