The Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO) FCT chapter has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello over the recent deployment of Barr. Amanda Pam as Executive Secretary, FCT Social Development Secretariat (SDS), describing it as timely and act of inclusive governance.
While speaking to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the chairman of the youth group, Comrade Israel Opaluwa, said that Malam Bello led administration has proven its capacity to father all the stakeholders in FCT.
Opaluwa stated that the appointment of Amanda Pam would move the SDS to enviable heights considering her pedigree.
He further revealed that the organisation has so far mobilised over ten thousand members with Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs) across the FCT who he said are ever ready to participate at the 2019 poll in the Territory.
According to him, it’s high time the youths learn from the past experiences and stop patronizing money bad politicians.
Opulawa further urged the youths to resist the temptation of selling their vote by collecting monies from politicians and eschew violence, political thurgery, and ballot box snatching during elections.
“It was in Nigeria sometime ago that some youths accosted their representative and were agitating for dividends of democracy and he boldly told them never to worry him that after all he bought this votes, alleging that they never voted for him.
“And honestly, I partly agree with him because if a money bag politician sells his property and share the proceeds during election and eventually wins the election, what do you expect him to do after he has been sworn in?
“Youths comprise of over 60 percent of Nigerian population living in the FCT and that is a good number to decide who represents them as Senator, House of Representative member, Chairman or Councilors.
“It is the time our youths come together, harness their large population strength and elect credible leaders, who will in turn provide them quality housing, healthcare and educational system”, he stated.
