Youths Ministry to introduce skills–acquisition programme into NYSC

As part of efforts to address unemployment and youth restiveness in the country, the Federal Ministry of Youths Development, has said it is working towards introducing skills-acquisition programme into the one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), irrespective of their area of specialization.

The minister, Mr. Boni Haruna made the disclosure on Monday in an interview with Journalists in Yola, Adamawa State Capital stressing that, proposed programme will no doubt go a long way in moulding our NYSC members into becoming industrious entrepreneurs that will be self-employed and employers of labour.

Mr. Haruna also explained that, his ministry is looking inwards, toward adequately engaging youths to access funds to make them self-reliant, with a view to contributing to the development of the economy in the country.

He said that, his ministry would raise funds for youths to access funds based on the business plans and entrepreneurial skills to start life other than relying on government for white collar jobs.

The former Governor of Adamawa State also used the forum with journalists to charge state governments to assiduously work hand in hand with his ministry to properly engage their youths in terms of provisions job opportunities as well as training youths to achieve the best of their potentials.

He however maintained that the bulk of the work of adequately engaging the Nigerian youths squarely rested on the state governments, as the bulk of the youths were in the states of the federation but stated that his ministry would liaise with other youths associations to the develop their God-given potentials and latent talents.

The Adamawa born minister, who also disclosed that he was in Yola preparatory to the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the state, maintained that the PDP is a party to beat in Nigeria as the party is more people-oriented compared to other political parties.

According to him, the defection of the likes of Engineer Markus Gundiri and General Mohammed Buba Marwa and their supporters was the best that has happened in Adamawa state as all politicians that worth their salt are in the PDP.
