The Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA) has conducted a free medical outreach for vulnerable residents in Gashua, the headquarters of Bade Local Government Area.
The outreach, held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Lawan Musa Primary Health Care Centre in Gashua, provided free medical consultations, drugs, medical consumables and health education to more than 1,500 beneficiaries.
According to the Public Relations Officer of YSCHMA, Suleiman Gambo Yusuf Bakoro, the exercise was part of the agency’s efforts to improve access to healthcare services for vulnerable populations across the state.
Speaking during the exercise, the Executive Secretary of YSCHMA, Dr Babagana Tijjani, said the initiative was aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to people at the grassroots.
Dr Tijjani said the programme specifically targeted vulnerable groups, providing them with medical consultations, free drugs and medical consumables.
“We are working to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing quality healthcare services,” he said.
He added that the outreach was designed to scale up access to healthcare services and reduce the burden of hardship and out-of-pocket medical expenses among vulnerable residents of Gashua.
According to him, the initiative was also in line with the health policy agenda of the Yobe State Government under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Some beneficiaries who spoke during the exercise commended YSCHMA and the Yobe State Government for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to vulnerable members of the community.
The beneficiaries also expressed satisfaction with the quality of medical services provided by the healthcare workers during the outreach.
Dr Tijjani further disclosed that similar medical outreaches would be conducted in other parts of the state in the coming weeks as part of the agency’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery, particularly for vulnerable populations.
He reaffirmed YSCHMA’s commitment to prioritising the healthcare needs of residents of Yobe State and supporting ongoing efforts to achieve universal health coverage in the state by 2030.
