Zamfara APC Gov Lawal disagree over 2026 Budget presentation

Date:

  • Accuses Gov of bypassing constitutional requirement

By Musa Baba Adamu with agency report

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), has accused the state government of violating constitutional procedures in the presentation of the 2026 budget proposal.
Governor Dauda Lawal had yesterday presented a Budget estimate of N861 billion to the Zamfara State House of Assembly, with N715 billion allocated for capital expenditure and N147.2 billion for recurrent spending.
But, the APC in a statement issued in Gusau, by APC Publicity Secretary Yusuf Idris, alleged that the budget presentation process did not comply with constitutional requirements.
It claimed the 2026 proposal, like previous ones, was presented without the two-thirds majority of House members required for matters such as appropriation bills.
“Governor Lawal has just presented his third appropriation bill of over N861 billion to a House that lacks the required quorum.
“This is a repeat of the 2024 and 2025 budget processes, which were presented in what we believe to be unconstitutional circumstances.”
Idris further alleged that the Executive and Legislative arms deliberately suspended some Lawmakers to reduce the number of members available during the session.
According to him, “Only 10 members were present to receive the governor and the bill.”
The APC called on the Federal Government to intervene, including considering the suspension of federal allocation to the state until what it described as “irregularities” are addressed.
