The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced a total ban on signing-out carnivals and related activities among final-year students in tertiary and secondary schools across the state.

The directive was contained in a circular dated April 6, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, according to a statement issued by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Bashir Abashiya.

The ministry said the decision followed growing concerns that such carnivals have degenerated into platforms for misconduct, indecent behaviour, and other activities inconsistent with the moral and academic standards of the state’s education system.

It stated that the ban takes immediate effect and applies to all educational institutions in Zamfara. School authorities have also been directed to convene stakeholders’ meetings to communicate and enforce the directive.

Parents and guardians were urged to caution their children and wards against participating in the prohibited activities, warning that strict penalties await violators.

According to the ministry, any teacher found aiding or condoning such acts will face disciplinary measures, including queries, final written warnings, suspension, or demotion.

Students who violate the directive risk severe sanctions, including the withholding or cancellation of results, as well as being required to repeat their final year where necessary.
