From Ibrahim Sidi Muh’d, Gusau
The Executive Council of the Zamfara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ZACCIMA), alongside representatives of more than 30 traders’ associations in the state, has expelled its Deputy President I, Chika Galadima, over alleged irregularities.
Galadima’s removal was announced following a unanimous resolution of the chamber’s Executive Council and leaders of the traders’ associations at a stakeholders’ meeting held at Falala Hotel in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
The council alleged that Galadima committed several offences, including delays in decision-making processes aimed at advancing the chamber and allegedly personalising its affairs.
Following the decision, the council appointed the chamber’s Deputy President II, Alhaji Abubakar Kabir, to replace Galadima as Deputy President I.
In their separate submissions, members of the Executive Council and representatives of the traders’ associations accused the former deputy president of failing to provide the leadership they expected and to effectively guide the chamber towards achieving its objectives.
Abubakar pledges inclusive leadership
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Deputy President I, Abubakar Kabir, thanked members of the Executive Council and representatives of traders’ and business associations across the state for their confidence in him.
Kabir said he accepted the appointment and pledged to work with all stakeholders to promote commercial activities and strengthen economic development in Zamfara.
> “I accept the nomination for the position of Deputy President I of the Chamber and agree to work with all stakeholders for the development of commercial activities in the state,” he said.
He also promised to collaborate with the Zamfara State Government and other stakeholders to promote trade and businesses as part of efforts to revive economic activities across the state.
Kabir commended members of the council, traders and business associations for their commitment to the development of the chamber and appealed for continued support to enable the organisation achieve its objectives.
He also called on Governor Dauda Lawal to support the chamber in its efforts to revive commercial and economic activities in Zamfara State.
Traders seek government support
Meanwhile, representatives of the traders’ associations appealed to Governor Lawal to introduce and support accessible loan schemes for traders to enable them to expand their businesses.
The traders said government-backed financing would help boost commercial activities, strengthen small businesses and contribute to economic growth across the state.
They urged the governor to consider approving loans and other forms of financial support for traders, saying such intervention would provide opportunities for businesses to grow and create more economic opportunities in Zamfara.
