Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, insisting that the state government will not negotiate with criminals responsible for the persistent banditry in the state.
The governor made the declaration during a condolence visit to Bungudu Local Government Area following a recent bandit attack that claimed lives and left several residents affected.
Governor Lawal’s visit commenced at the palace of the Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, where he sympathised with the traditional ruler, bereaved families and the entire Bungudu community over the tragic incident.
Addressing residents, the governor described the attack as a painful test but assured them that his administration remains committed to restoring peace across Zamfara State.
> “I am here to express my sympathy and condolences to the families, the Emir and the people of Bungudu over last week’s bandit attacks,” he said.
He stressed that the state government is investing significant resources and collaborating with security agencies to end banditry, while urging residents to remain patient and continue praying for lasting peace.
Governor Lawal also prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed in the attack and assured families of the victims that the government would continue to support those injured and intensify efforts to secure the safe return of kidnapped persons.
Emir Commends Governor’s Security Efforts
Responding, the Emir of Bungudu commended Governor Lawal for his commitment to addressing insecurity, noting that his efforts have been evident through the state’s security interventions.
“As a member of the state’s Security Council, I am aware of the governor’s efforts. I am confident that we will overcome the challenge of banditry,” the monarch said.
He also thanked the governor for personally visiting the community to commiserate with victims, describing the gesture as a source of comfort to the people of Bungudu.
Governor Visits Bereaved Families
As part of the condolence visit, Governor Lawal met with the family of the late Alhaji Bello Umar Bungudu and other families affected by the attack, where he offered prayers and condolences.
The visit underscores the Zamfara State Government’s continued engagement with communities affected by insecurity as it intensifies efforts to combat banditry and restore peace across the state.
