Zamfara lawmaker under probe for arms possession

Date:

From Ibrahim Sidi Muh’d, Gusau

It was a scary and confusing moment for some residents of Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, when security operatives yesterday stormed the residence of a lawmaker (names withheld) in a commando style and allegedly discovered arms and ammunition in large quantities.

An impeccable source that did not want to be identified in print, told our correspondent that the raid was as a result of tip-off by security personnel.

According to the source, a clique of arms pushers were arrested in Kano, who confessed after being grilled that they got the arms from the suspected lawmaker in Zamfara state.

It was allegedly based on the confession that the security operatives were reported to have stormed his two personal houses, situated in his Tsafe and Gusau residence, during which the suspected arms were discovered.

However, when contacted, the embattled lawmaker maintained that, he was honorably invited by the security operatives to tender a written statement on the matter, which he said he did, adding that he had no idea of any illegal storage of arms in the house as he had already given it out for rent.

Also, speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) DSP Lawal Abdullahi declined comment, saying the Police Command of the state is not even aware of anything of that nature.
