The Zungeru Hydro Dam project host community in Niger State currently under construction by the Federal Government has solicited the Chinese company; Sinohydro Construction Company handling the project to impact positively on the lives of the communities living around the area as part of its cooperate social responsibility.
The community lamented over the total neglect the ancient town has persistently suffered, despite the important role it played in the history of Nigeria.
The District/Village Head of Zungeru, Alhaji Tanko Madaki, made the disclosure during the presentation of educational materials to pupils of primary schools in the area by the Construction Company in Zungeru , saying that Zungeru has been totally abandoned without adequate attention by governments for a long time now.
Madaki appealed to the company to assist the community, especially with good roads and potable water, among others, considering the hardship being experienced by the people.
Speaking earlier, the Project Manager of Sinohydro Company, Mr. Zhou Yonfzhi, said the decision to distribute the educational materials valued at N1.2 million is to mark the Childrens’ Day, which is usually celebrated by the Chinese government on June 1 every year.
He noted that the move was also part of Sinohyrdos’ social responsibility to its host communities, saying since the commencement of the dam project last year, it has continued to enjoy peace with communities around the dam.
