105, 000 people still displaced in Yobe State -EU

A European Union report, has estimated that 2,332 persons were killed, and 196, 000 were internally displaced at the height of Boko Haram insurgency in Yobe State.
The report showed that presently however, over 105, 000 persons still remained displaced, most of whom are in host communities or informal camps rather than formal camps which has been formally closed as the inmates voluntarily, has returned to their formal communities To assist the state in its recovery plan therefore, the EU has earmarked the sum of 26 million EU dollars through its 11th European development funds for the execution of two new EU funded projects, which was launched yesterday in Damaturu, the state capital, aimed at strengthening the recovery and resilience of the IDPs and other vulnerable groups in the state.
Proven international implementing partners, the Save the Children and Mercy corps will execute the project which will last for three years from April 2019 to July 2022 and over 56, 000 households will directly benefit from the projects, according to the report made available to our reporter.
The projects will focus attention in the areas of food security and livelihood, social protection, rehabilitation and reconstruction of water access points in markets, schools and health facilities.
Other areas of intervention includes resilience building, nutrition and social protection which would involve advocating for state-level social protection policy, training on social protection for civil society and media, among other areas.
