No fewer than 1,984 prospective corps members comprising 846 males and 1,138 females were on Monday sworn in for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course in Kaduna State, officially commencing their one-year national service.
The corps members, deployed to Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are participating in the orientation exercise at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Government College, Kaduna.
They began reporting to camp on June 10 and have reportedly demonstrated discipline, resilience, and adaptability to camp activities.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, the Kaduna State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Efeke Murna Dadaza, commended the corps members for their orderly conduct and smooth adjustment to camp life.
She also expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government for its continued support towards the welfare of corps members and the operations of the scheme in the state.
The coordinator, however, appealed for additional support, including the provision of a permanent orientation camp, an ambulance, improved feeding arrangements during orientation, metal bunk beds, mattresses, and monthly stipends for corps members throughout their service year.
According to her, such interventions would enhance the welfare and motivation of corps members, enabling them to contribute more effectively to national development.
Dadaza assured the state government that the corps members would uphold the core values and objectives of the NYSC Scheme. She urged them to embrace the service year as an opportunity for personal growth, character development, and national integration.
She further encouraged them to participate actively in all camp activities and take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, stressing that entrepreneurial and vocational skills would prepare them for self-reliance and wealth creation after service.
Declaring the orientation course open, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, congratulated the corps members on their successful mobilization.
The governor described the NYSC as a vital instrument for national unity, cultural integration, and community development, noting that the scheme has continued to foster nation-building for over five decades.
He urged the corps members to participate fully in military drills, leadership training, civic education, and entrepreneurship programmes, while maintaining discipline, integrity, and respect for Nigeria’s diverse cultures and traditions.
Governor Sani also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, security, and well-being of corps members serving in Kaduna State, assuring them of a conducive environment throughout their service year.
He encouraged them to deploy their skills, ideas, and energy towards community development and the collective goal of building a stronger, more united Nigeria.
