A total of 1,984 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members were officially sworn in on Monday, marking the commencement of their mandatory one-year national service for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I deployment.
The new intake, comprising 846 males and 1,138 females, includes corps members deployed to Kaduna State as well as those conjoined for their orientation from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The ceremony took place at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp located at Government College, Kaduna.
Speaking at the swearing-in event, the NYSC Kaduna State Coordinator, Mrs. Efeke Murna Dadaza, commended the corps members for their exceptional discipline and resilience since arriving at the camp on June 10.
She noted that the youths have adapted swiftly to the rigorous and structured environment of the orientation course.
While expressing gratitude to the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani for its consistent backing of the scheme, Mrs. Dadaza used the platform to appeal for critical infrastructural and welfare upgrades to improve the service conditions of the corps members.
The State Coordinator’s key requests to the government included: the establishment of a permanent NYSC orientation camp for the state, the provision of a dedicated camp ambulance for medical emergencies.
Logistical upgrades including new metal bunk beds and mattresses, enhanced feeding arrangements during the orientation exercise and the introduction of state-backed monthly stipends to supplement the corps members throughout their service year.
“This support will further motivate corps members to serve diligently and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Dadaza stated, emphasizing that securing the welfare of the youths is a direct investment in the state’s growth.
Governor Uba Sani, through government representatives at the event, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and general welfare of all corps members deployed to Kaduna State during their service year.
The coordinator assured the government that the corps members would uphold the NYSC scheme’s core values and ideals.
She encouraged them to see national service as an opportunity for self-development, character building, and national integration, and urged active participation in all camp activities and modeling exemplary conduct.
Dadaza also advised corps members to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program seriously, noting that gaining vocational and entrepreneurial skills would set them up for self-employment and wealth creation after their service.
Declaring the orientation course open, Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, congratulated the corps members on reaching this milestone.
He emphasized that national service remains a key tool for nation-building, noting that NYSC has, for 53 years, promoted national unity, cultural integration, and community development across Nigeria.
The governor urged the corps members to actively participate in military drills, leadership training, civic education, and entrepreneurship programs. He advised them to uphold discipline, integrity, and respect for diversity throughout their service year.
