A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, Abuja, has sentenced two drivers, Godwin Peter, 42, and Ndubis Ajah, 40, to two months imprisonment each for violating traffic rules.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr. Celestine Odoh, however, gave them an option of N5, 000 fine.
He said that the rate of traffic rules violation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was alarming, adding that the verdict would serve as a warning to other road users.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Cpl Paul Anigbo, told the court that on February 28, at about 12:00 a.m, the convicts parked their vehicles at an inappropriate place, thereby, causing obstruction.
He said that they were arrested by a team of police patrol led by DSP Micheal Eguobi of Lugbe Divisional Police Station on Galadimawa roundabout.
He said that Peter had a Toyota Corolla with registration no: XJ 739 RBC, while Ajah was owned a Mercedes Benz with registration No. BP 788 ABC.
Anigbo said that they were standing trial for obstructing traffic, contrary to the Road Traffic Act.
They pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency, saying they would not repeat the offence. (NAN)
