2 students get 9 months’ imprisonment for removing hotelier’s tooth

A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, Abuja, has sentenced two students, Azeez Animasi, 28, and Isaac Eboyi, 27, to nine months in prison each for beating a hotelier, resulting in the removal of his tooth.

The convicts, who both reside in Durumi Phase 1, were charged with criminal force, assault and causing hurt.

In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ubani, sentenced them after they had pleaded guilty to the charges.

Ubani however gave them an option to pay a fine of N4, 000 each.

“I sentence you to three months imprisonment each for the offence of criminal force and assault, and six months each for causing grievous hurt.

Earlier, the police, Cpl Francis Tanko, had told the court that on February 12, Mr Nwobodo Beneth, of Air Waves Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the convicts at the Wuse Zone 2 police station, Abuja.

He told the court that Beneth had reported that on same day, while he was at the hotel, the convicts came, beat him up and removed one of his front teeth, using their heads to hit his mouth.

Tanko said that the convicts were standing trial for the offences of joint act, criminal force and assault, and causing grievous hurt, an offence punishable under sections 79, 265, and 245 of the Penal code respectively.

Having pleaded guilty to the charges, the convicts had begged the court for mercy, promising never to commit such crime again. (NAN)
