A group of concerned citizens mainly from Yobe north, Yobe State has called on the leadership of the All progressive Congress (APC), to zone the governorship seat to Yobe north in the spirit of fairness and justice.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after a marathon meeting in Kano yesterday, the group through its leader, Alhaji Mohammed D. Gaskanta, averred that zoning the governorship seat to Yobe north is the only panacea for peace, fairness and equity.
The group which has representatives from the six local governments, namely, Bade, Jakusko, Yusufari, Karsuwa, Nguru and Machina that made up Yobe north Senatorial district noted that since the creation of the state over two decades ago, the zone has been sidelined in the helm of affairs.
Gaskanta particularly highlighted that the zone has never produced either the governor or the deputy of the state, leaving only Yobe East and South enjoying the spoils of office of that of the governor and deputy since 1991.
“The concerned indigenes of Yobe North Senatorial Zone, after wide consultations with all political stakeholders within the state, hold this press conference in our bid to curtail the continued lopsidedness in power sharing, in particular, the rotation of the gubernatorial position, ever since the state was created in August, 1991. A greater number of the party elders, executives and members at all levels have consented and accepted our call for power shift of the gubernatorial position in 2015 election.”
“This resolution was made based on the following facts and therefore call on all our party faithful, and indeed the leadership of our great party, All Progressive Congress (APC), in both state and national levels, to while acknowledging these facts, in the spirit of fairness and justice that the party is known for, recognize, accept and implement the yearning of the need to shift the gubernatorial position to Yobe North Senatorial Zone in the next primary election of our great party” he said.
