2015: Nasarawa North to produce consensus candidate

By Evelyn Okakwu

The Nasarawa North Forum has stated, if given the necessary support, it will present a consensus candidate for the 2015 gubernatorial election.

A statement by the spokesman for the Forum, Prof. Onje Gya-wado, said it plans to canvass for the support of other senatorial zones in Nasarawa State to enable the zone to produce the next governor, before going ahead with the decision to produce a conscious candidate.

It added that the decision was based on the fact that Nasarawa north remained the only zone that had not produced a governor since the creation of the state.

According to the statement, Prof. Gya-wado pleaded that in the spirit of equity and fairness, other zones should now support Nasarawa North to produce the next governor for Nasarawa State.

“As we leave you all, it is our prayer that Nasarawa State will know peace and that all those who know that it is the turn of Nasarawa North should now give us the opportunity. So we call on our brothers from Nasarawa West, Nasarawa South to realize that it is only in equity that we can get there; that it is only in fairness that we can be together and it is only in politics like this that we can enjoy the benefit of democracy,” he stated.

It also condemned the spate of violence in the state, which had led to the destruction of lives and properties and the displacement of thousands of people.

“We also noted that politics is a very interesting game but which can only be played in an atmosphere of peace. We therefore felt and we are of the considered opinion that the situation in Nasarawa State that has implications for politics is worrying, disturbing and unacceptable. That the state of instability, conflicts, destruction and vandalisation in Nasarawa South particularly must be stopped henceforth and that we believe government has a responsibility to do this as soon as it is practicable for us to continue to enjoy the game of politics,” he remarked.
