2015: Tambuwal in secret meeting with Obasanjo

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, yesterday held a secret meeting with the former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at his Hilltop home, Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State.

Tambuwal who arrived the former president’s residence around 5.30pm left around 6.18pm.

Peoples Daily gathered allegedly that the visit might not be unconnected with the speaker’s Presidential ambition in the forthcoming 2015 general election.

Though the outcome of the meeting is still unknown, it is being rumoured that the speaker was nurturing a presidential ambition.

However, his media aide, Mr. Imam Imam, said Tambuwal and Obasanjo only rubbed minds on the state of the nation, and how to move it forward.

He said, “You know Baba is a father to all in the country, “It is about rubbing minds on how to move the country forward, and make Nigeria better.”

Asked whether the visit was in connection with Tambuwal’s alleged presidential ambition in 2015, Imam said he could not confirm that because it was a closed door meeting between Tambuwal and Obasanjo.

He said, “I could not say anything on that because it was a closed door meeting. About the presidential ambition, that also I could not comment on. Let’s wait till 2015 and then we will address that.”

A reliable source, however, revealed to Peoples Daily that the Speaker’s secret meeting is part of his mobilisation and consultation efforts for the 2015 presidential election.

It would be recalled that posters of Tambuwal for president, with the deputy speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, being the running mate recently flooded Abuja.

However, Malam Imam Imam dissociated the speaker from the posters, but he did not rule out the possibility of his joining the race.

As at press time yesterday, Imam could no longer be reached for further clarification on the Abeokuta meeting.
