Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111, yesterday cautioned politicians and some elite against making unguarded utterances ahead of 2015 election, saying such nasty comments were inimical to the progress of the country.
He also said Northerners were not parasites but contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.
The monarch made the call when the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Rivers state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, paid him homage in his palace in Sokoto.
He charged politicians to play responsible politics and refrain from violence and wanton killing in the polity.
He noted with dismay that some few individuals have formed the habit of clamouring for the disintegration of the country into smaller nations in order to remain relevant.
The monarch emphasised that the world only respects Nigeria because of its size and population.
