2018 World Humanitarian Day: Stakeholders call for more support

Stakeholders have called for more support for humanitarian workers across the globe.
The call was made during the celebration of 2018 World Humanitarian Day yesterday in Abuja, with the theme : “Not A Target: Protection of Civilian”.
Speaking, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha said that “ in Nigeria alone we have up to 50 names that have lost their lives in 2007 to 2009 that is huge lost.”
Represented by the Permanent Secretary Special Duty in the office of the SGF William Alo, Mustapha stated that “this is not just something that happens far away from home but we are having to deal with lives and produce humanitarian services in the Nigeria, the contient.

He urged that “it is therefore apt that we create awareness in such a way that more people can be involved and get engage in humanitarian services, you don’t have to be a commission humanitarian”.
“Before you act, whenever there’s a crisis around you, your instincts within you should move you to do something. Yes there are people that are trained to provide such services in which we are happy about but I also urged volunteerism in each and every one of us is call to duty “.
He maintained the need to demonstrate as well as that demand a greater humanity and create a wide spread to spot humanitarian action across the globe.
“In Nigeria the government has taken steps to see how we can preempt and try to prevent especially numbers of human initiative forms of crisis neither sometimes physical weapons, chemical weapons, biological weapons, radiological or nuclear weapons to help the government
“With this ,we seen to criminalised the use of chemical and biological weapons for wrong purpose but only for peaceful purpose.”
Also, speaking the Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja ,said the celebration of 2018 World Humanitarian Day, was a day to rally support for humanitarian workers, a day to pay tribute to aid workers, it is a day to remember those that have lost their lives while providing humanitarian services to the vulnerable, a day to honour those that have survived various .
Maihaja who emphasised that the Theme for this year celebration is “Not A Target: Protection of Civilian”, said humanitarian workers should not be the target of any form of attack.” They are working for humanity, they are neutral and impartial. But since 2003, many more humanitarian and aid workers have been killed, and attacked all over the world in the course of their duties. In 2017 alone, major incidents of violence against humanitarian operations were recorded in 22 countries affecting 313 aid workers”.
