2019 elections: RTEAN decries exclusion from MoU on logistics movement

By Albert Akota

The leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) yesterday lamented over exclusion of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between transport unions and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the movement of logistic for the forthcoming general election.
The President of the union, Mr Osakpamwan Eriyo disclosed this in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media, Mr Ben Ogbemudia in Abuja.
He said despite the fact that the Ministry of Labour and Productivity and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) has written to INEC chairman identifying the current leadership of RTEAN, the commission still not recognised Eriyo led leadership.
According to him, one of the Aides to the INEC chairman confirmed that a letter was received from the minister of Labour identifying the leadership of Eriyo.
He however, stated that, the union should put their house in order adding that the MoU was delayed because they don’t know the authentic leadership of RTEAN for now compared with other transport unions.
Confirming the authentic leadership of RTEAN, Comrade Benson Upah, Head of Administration, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) however confirmed Comrade Osakpamwan Eriyo as the true leadership of RTEAN.
“We want to say that the leadership of RTEAN in Nigeria is not in doubt, if you come to our National Headquarter, you will see Comrade Osakpamwan Eriyo and his Executives in office.
“What else do you need to proof who is authentic or not, If there is another person they INEC know, they should tell us. So, we are waiting patiently for them to call us to do the needful,” it said.
