2023: ADP guber candidate vows to create identification number for Kano residents to check insecurity

Date:

From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

The Kano state gubernatorial candidate of Action Democratic Party, CBN,  Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada has hinted that part of his blueprint for addressing insecurity in the state is to create an identification number for every Kano resident.

Sharada dropped the hint while participating in an interactive session for Kano State 2023 Gubernatorial Candidates on education, health, security, infrastructure, governance, commerce and industry, agriculture, environment, women, children, and youth development.

The interactive session was organized by a medical practitioner, Dr. Aminu Magashi, in collaboration with civil society organizations and NGOs.

It was an opportunity for the ADP governorship candidate to showcase his blueprint to the general public on what he intends to do if he emerges as governor of the state in 2023 general elections.

In a statement by his spokesman, Abbas Yushau,  Sharada said “for insecurity to be a thing of the past, my government will synergize with critical stakeholders to identify and track every Kano resident.”

The identification number, according to the statement, is a plan to curb the growing insecurity affecting many parts of the federation.

According to him, “this can be accomplished by collaborating with traditional rulers at the local level, which include ward heads, village heads, and district heads.

“traditional rulers have the capacity to trace any individual and identify him, provided he is living within their domain.

“I will encourage community policing in collaboration with international and local partners, including security personnel, and at the same time create a Kano State Security Trust Fund to ensure adequate funding of security issues.”

Sharada also pledged to create a Kano State Ministry for Internal Security that would coordinate intelligence gathering and partner with all heads of security agencies in the state.

Sharada, who is a serving member of the House of Representatives for Municipal Federal Constituency and chairman, House committee on security and intelligence, said that in order to tame excessive leakage of government funds, he would abolish security votes.

According to him, security votes are being used by the executive arm of government to siphon government funds.
