Bashir Ishaq Bashir, former gubernatorial candidate of People’s Democratic Movement, PDM, in 2019 election, has declared his intention to contest for governorship in 2023, under the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

Speaking at the declaration at an event, held at the Shekarau’s residence at Mundubawa Street in Kano State on Saturday, Bashir said decided to vie for the governorship in order to restore the past glory of the state.

According to him, Kano had become the shadow of its former self due to bad governance by some past administrations, rendering the state into a sorry situation.

He said education had been destroyed, as over 3 miliion children are out of school, adding that health and economic sectors had also been destroyed in the state, which was known to be the commercial nerve-centre of the Northern Nigeria.

“Poverty has taken to its toll in this state. People have turned to beggers. Hospitals are decayed, as even the mortuary at our hospitals are now dead.

“Business activities have been grounded. No investtors because there is no enabling environment for investment.

“No electricity. People are suffering, but the government has shifted its attention to building bridges and flyovers,” he said

Bashir said if elected as the governor, he would restore the economic glory of the state by wooing investors and make Kano a business friendly state.

“We will not be stealing your money. We will restore the image of Kano state as the pride of Arewa and Nigeria. We will revive Kano as a symbol of commerce, business, religion and culture.

“All these are no more. Business has collapsed. Companies have closed. Kano is going backwards with no promising future.

“I will establish a 50MW power plant in my first year in office. Before the tenure runs out, i will increase it to 100MW.

“With all this, i accept and answer the calls of good people of Kano to come and salvage the state from its current situation.

“I, hereby declare my intention to contest for governorship election in 2023 under APC, led by our leader, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau,” Bashir declared.
