Benue state chapter of Nigeria Union of Labour has vowed to go ahead with its planned strike, which commences today, except the state governmental settle all grey issues affecting workers in the State.
The union, which took this stand at the end of its joint meeting at the Labor House in Makurdi, said the strike will commence at 6am and continue indefinitely until government address their grievance
In a communiqué, signed by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Simon Anchaver and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Comrade Ordue Tartenger, the Congress lamented over the huge deduction of workers salary for the month of June, tasked government to refund the excess tax deducted from salaries of their members since 2011 as well as pay the three years Leave Transport Grant, LTG arrears owed them.
The joint session, which also expressed worry over the non-payment of minimum wage to pensioners and the non-implementation of 15% and 2.5% increment to pensioners, while regretting that in spite of the recent agreement signed between the state government and Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) the latter are yet to enjoy the full implementation of minimum wage.
The Congress also called on the government to refund all deductions made in respect of the National Housing Fund, NHF to its members with immediate effect.
