In what seems as a proactive measure to ensure a successful 2024 farming season, the FCT Administration has reiterated its commitment to sustain its support for farmers in the territory.
Mandate Secretary for the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS), Lawan Geidam, gave this assurance recently while meeting with officials of the Secretariat to map out the Administration’s annual input support programme to the FCT farming community.
This move, Geidam said will ensure effective deployment of Agriculture Extension Agents, sensitisation of farmers with best practices in land preparation, and amongst other agricultural activities.
According to him, “Through our Agric Development Project, alongside Extension Agents, we’re not just imparting the wisdom of good agricultural practices.
“We are also disseminating insights from the latest Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) reports to inform their activities.”
The ARDS Secretary who also restated the commitment of the FCT Administration, under the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, to change the narrative and trend of delayed input provision, added that all necessary processes will be expedited to ensure timely support.
Furthermore, the ARDS boss disclosed that there will be a significant focus on training programmes designed to enhance farmers’ skills in line with the highest global best standards in agriculture.
He added that the goal is to not only increase the quality but also the quantity of their yield, thereby securing a more prosperous season for all.
