The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State, Bilyaminu Yusuf Shinkafi, has outlined a development-focused agenda for the state, promising to prioritize security, education, healthcare, agriculture and employment if elected in 2027.
Shinkafi made the commitment in Gusau while formally presenting himself to ADC stakeholders, party members and supporters following his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate.
According to him, Zamfara’s development prospects remain severely constrained by insecurity, poverty and inadequate social services, making the restoration of safety and economic stability central to his political agenda.
“My commitment is clear: security will be the foundation of our government,” he said.
He argued that insecurity had disrupted communities, displaced residents and prevented farmers from accessing their farmlands, with serious consequences for the state’s economy and food production.
Beyond security, Shinkafi identified poor educational outcomes, inadequate healthcare, unemployment and limited economic opportunities as challenges requiring urgent government intervention.
He pledged that an ADC administration would expand access to quality education and healthcare, strengthen support for farmers and create opportunities for young people through jobs, skills acquisition and other economic empowerment initiatives.
The candidate also stressed the need for greater accountability in the management of public resources, insisting that government funds must translate into tangible development across the state rather than remain concentrated in a few areas.
Shinkafi further appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct the 2027 election campaign peacefully and focus on competing ideas and policy proposals.
“Let us debate ideas, programmes and records; not personalities. Let us compete vigorously, but respect one another. Zamfara is bigger than any political party or candidate,” he said.
He maintained that the state’s interests should remain paramount throughout the electoral contest, urging political actors to avoid actions capable of deepening existing divisions or threatening peace.
