Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has urged members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to close ranks and focus on defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking after emerging as the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku said the party’s primary election was not about winners and losers but about building a united front to “rescue” Nigeria from what he described as corruption, incompetence and division under the APC-led administration.
In a message posted on X, the former presidential candidate warned party supporters against premature celebrations, stressing that the real political battle lies ahead.
According to him, “This is not the time to celebrate. No one was defeated because we are one party and we all need to recognise the fierce urgency of the moment.”
Atiku maintained that all aspirants and stakeholders must now work together to strengthen the party ahead of the next general election.
He accused the APC government of deepening hardship and political division across the country, insisting that Nigerians are yearning for change and competent leadership.
The ADC flagbearer also praised the party’s primary election committee for conducting what he described as peaceful, transparent and credible primaries nationwide.
He further commended party leaders, volunteers and supporters for their commitment and orderly conduct throughout the process.
Atiku, however, noted that securing the party’s ticket only marks the beginning of a more demanding political journey.
“With the primaries behind us, the real hard work is about to begin,” he stated, while calling on party members to intensify mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.
