Governorship candidates of opposition political parties in Kaduna State have accused the state government of allegedly persecuting opposition parties, vowing to unite and work together to protect democratic values and ensure a credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The candidates made the allegations on Thursday during a meeting of the Gubernatorial Candidates Forum (GCF) in Kaduna, where they discussed issues affecting opposition parties and explored areas of cooperation ahead of the elections.
Chairman of the forum and governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Muhammad Aminu Abubakar, said the opposition parties were determined to work together to achieve a change of government in the state in 2027.
He said: “We, the participating opposition parties, are determined to work together to ensure a credible electoral process and bring about a change of government in Kaduna State in 2027.”

Similarly, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Usman Shehu Bawa, called for sustained cooperation among the parties, describing it as essential to defending democratic values and advancing their common interests.
He said continuous engagement, mutual understanding and collaboration would help build a stronger opposition capable of promoting credible elections in the state.
The candidates also pledged to jointly address issues of common concern, strengthen democratic participation and ensure that political competition was conducted in an atmosphere of fairness, mutual respect and respect for the rights of all political parties.
They further warned against actions capable of undermining public confidence in democracy or denying opposition parties a level playing field ahead of the 2027 elections.
Those in attendance included governorship candidates of the PRP, PDP, New Democratic Party (NDP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Action Alliance (AA), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Accord Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and Labour Party (LP), among others.
