A fresh wave of defections has hit Kamba/Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as dozens of members from the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), All Progressives Congress, (APC), and Social Democratic Party, (SDP), have decamped to the African Democratic Congress, (ADC).

The defectors were formally received into the ADC during a political event held in Kamba town on Wednesday.

Speaking on the development, State Chairperson of the ADC, Hajiya Hawa’u Muhammad, popularly known as Yar Buga, described the defections as a “major boost” for the party in Kebbi South and a sign of growing public dissatisfaction with the status quo.

“This movement shows that people are looking for an alternative, a party that listens and serves. ADC represents that hope,” she said.

The defectors were reportedly made up of former ward and unit officials who cited poor leadership and neglect by their former parties as reasons for the switch.

Mr Yakubu noted that the commission would be deploy 30,451 officials for the by-elections involving a total of 3,553,659 registered voters spread across 32 Local Government Areas in 356 wards and 6,987 polling units.

He recalled that in the last two years since the inauguration of the national and state assemblies in June 2023, vacancies requiring by-elections had occurred nationwide.

Mr Yakubu also recalled that in February 2025, INEC conducted nine bye-elections to fill vacancies resulting from the deaths or resignation of members of the national and state assemblies, noting that more vacancies had occurred.
