Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has ended months of uncertainty over the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket by confirming Deputy Governor Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel as his running mate for the 2027 election.
Namadi made the announcement while receiving a delegation from the Gumel Emirate at the Government House in Dutse, saying his decision was informed by Gumel’s competence, professionalism, loyalty and contributions to the achievements of his administration.
According to the governor, the deputy governor has consistently demonstrated commitment to the government’s development agenda, making him deserving of another term alongside him.
The confirmation puts to rest widespread speculation that Namadi might drop Gumel from the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The rumours had been linked to Gumel’s perceived political closeness to former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, whose relationship with Namadi had previously been strained before both leaders recently reconciled.
Responding to the announcement, Gumel thanked the governor and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him.
He acknowledged that many others were qualified for the position but said Namadi had considered him worthy of the opportunity, describing the decision as a great honour.
The deputy governor also pledged to remain loyal and continue supporting the governor in delivering the administration’s development agenda and ensuring continued progress in Jigawa State.
