Former Senate President Dr. Ken Nnamani, former governor of the old Anambra state, Chief Jim Nwobodo were among the dignitaries that have endorsed Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state for a second term in office.
The stakeholders, who announced the endorsement on Saturday during the Awkunanaw Clan Mega Rally held at the Civil Centre in Akegbe-Ugwu, said the developmental strides of the governor across the state informed their decision.
Speaking at the rally, Nnamani who also called for unity within the clan, urged members to avoid internal political conflicts and instead support the governor’s developmental leadership. He described the endorsement as a collective decision, insisting that Governor Mbah’s performance justified another term.
In the same vein, former governor of Anambra, Chief Jim Nwobodo, pledged the zone’s full support for Mbah’s re-election.
Nwobodo who was represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Okey Ogbodo, recalled the historical ties between Governor Mbah’s community and Awkunanaw Clan, said the clan’s endorsement of the governor symbolized enduring trust.
Earlier, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, who also hails from the clan, described the gathering as a demonstration of gratitude, pride and unwavering support for the governor.
Responding, Governor Mbah expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support, describing the turnout as unprecedented, adding that the rally signified unity and a shared vision among the people of Awkunanaw and the entire Nkanu land.
Mbah said his administration had positioned Enugu state as a benchmark for good governance, with key projects scattered across the state.
The Awkunanaw clan comprises the Akegbe-Ugwu, Obuofia, Amechi, Amodu, Umueze, Akwuke, Ugwuaji and Obeagu communities, located within Nkanu land in Enugu South and Nkanu West Council areas of Enugu State.
