The Peter Obi Media Office (POMR) has announced that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), will no longer respond to attacks or insinuations from political surrogates and proxies.

In a statement issued on Monday, POMR spokesman Idris Zekeri stated that responding to hired surrogates—who indulge in fabrications to keep their principals relevant—is no longer necessary.

Zekeri emphasized that a presidential election is a direct contest between individuals whose names appear on the ballot, not their proxies.

“A presidential election is a contest between the individuals whose names will appear on the ballot and who are asking Nigerians to entrust them with leadership of the country, not between candidates and their hired defenders,” Zekeri said.

He added that Obi is prepared to defend his record, stand by his words, and engage in open policy debates with fellow candidates to help Nigerians make informed choices.

He challenged other presidential contenders to step forward and address the public directly.

“Those seeking to govern Nigeria should have the same courage.

“We challenge every presidential candidate hiding behind surrogates to step forward and speak for themselves.

“Defend your record. Explain your policies. Address the concerns Nigerians have. Debate your fellow candidates. Do not send proxies to fight battles you are unwilling or unable to face directly,”  Zekeri stated.

He criticized the practice of using defenders to make reckless accusations while candidates remain distant from the fallout, stressing that Nigerians deserve direct leadership.

From now on, surrogates are not our constituency of response. Candidates are,” Zekeri affirmed, concluding that the 2027 election will be decided by the voters hearing directly from those seeking their mandate.
