2027: SDP women leaders meet in Abuja to strategise on grassroots mobilisation

As campaigns for the 2027 general elections continue, the National Speaker of the Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Amb. Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, has charged women leaders of the party across the country to strengthen their strategies for effective grassroots mobilisation.

Amb. Abdullahi made the call on Friday at a strategic meeting held at the National Secretariait of the party, between the party’s national women leadership and state women leaders.

She argued that the time has come for women to organise themselves so as to build strong, functional structures across the states, local governments, wards and communities, and to ensure that their voices and contributions were not only heard but also felt within the party and the country.

The National Speaker warned that political success would not be achieved through wishful thinking but only through organisation, sacrifice, strategy, commitment and effective grassroots engagement.

According to her, the SDP Women Parliament was determined to strengthen its structures and mobilise more women across the country to actively participate in the activities of the oldest political party in Nigeria.

“This meeting gives us an opportunity to assess where we are, identify our weaknesses, strengthen our structures and develop practical strategies for taking the SDP message to every ward, community and household,” she said.

Speaking further, Abdullahi advised state women leaders to see themselves as strategic pillars of the party; even as she stressed the need for discipline , focus, teamwork and commitment to the collective vision of the SDP.

On how to achieve the desired success, the National Speaker charged the women to put aside their differences and work together, insisting that unity among women would strengthen party structures and amplify their voices.

However, she commended the state women leaders for their sacrifices, particularly those who travelled long distances to attend the meeting at their own expense, and urged them to return to their various states and translate the resolutions of the meeting into positive results.

“Our strength is in our unity, our power is in our organisation, and our weapon is our determination. We must organise, mobilise and deliver results,” she said.

In his remarks, National Chairman of the SDP, Prof. Sadiq Gombe, represented by the Deputy National Chairman South, Sen. Ugochukwu Uba, assured women of more inclusion in the affairs of the party.

Gombe said the party was undergoing reforms and reorganisation to strengthen its structures and prepare for future political activities.

He added that the SDP was committed to giving women their rightful place in political appointments, party activities and elections.

The National Chairman described the SDP as an ideological party committed to the welfare of Nigerians and the principles contained in Chapter Two of the Nigerian Constitution.
