2027: Sowore challenges politicians to build own parties instead of relying on godfathers

African Action Congress, (AAC), presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has challenged politicians seeking elective offices in 2027 to build their own political movements rather than depend on wealthy patrons, godfathers or established parties.

Sowore argued that politicians who believe they command significant popular support should be able to mobilize Nigerians around their ideas without relying on political structures created and financed by others.

In a social media post, the AAC candidate questioned the practice of politicians moving from one political party to another whenever elections approach, instead of developing and strengthening their own platforms.

He also criticised politicians who seek to convince supporters of existing political movements to abandon the platforms they helped build in favour of other parties.

“If their ideas are so compelling, let them organize. If their platforms are so popular, let them mobilize. If their politics is so powerful, let them build,” Sowore said.

He maintained that the AAC represents a different model, arguing that the party was built through the contributions, sacrifices and activism of ordinary Nigerians rather than being established to serve the ambitions of wealthy political figures.

Sowore said politicians seeking to attract supporters to alternative platforms should first demonstrate their ability to create sustainable political structures of their own.

“We built ours with our sweat and blood. Let them build theirs,” he added.

His remarks come as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups exploring alliances and platforms ahead of the polls.
