With just 23 days to the opening of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, excitement continues to build across the nation as Team Nigeria intensifies preparations for one of the biggest multi-sport events in the Commonwealth calendar.
The Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026, bringing together approximately 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories. Glasgow 2026 will feature a streamlined programme of 10 sports, including six integrated Para sports, making it one of the most inclusive editions of the Games.
Officials have confirmed that Nigeria will proudly compete in the following 10 sports: athletics, basketball (3×3), boxing, judo, para athletics, para cycling, para powerlifting, swimming, weightlifting and wheelchair basketball
Over the last few months, the National Sports Commission, working closely with the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the various national sports federations, has continued to strengthen Team Nigeria’s preparations through national trials, technical training programmes, local and foreign training camps planning, aimed at assembling a highly competitive contingent.
Nigeria has consistently been one of Africa’s strongest performers at the Commonwealth Games, with a proud tradition of excellence in different sports. The Glasgow Games present another opportunity for Team Nigeria to showcase the country’s sporting talent, resilience and competitive spirit on the international stage.
Beyond medal ambitions, Team Nigeria’s participation reflects the nation’s commitment to youth development, sports excellence and the promotion of unity through sport. The integrated Para sports programme further demonstrates Nigeria’s dedication to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all athletes.
As the countdown reaches 23 days, Team Nigeria calls on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to rally behind the nation’s athletes as they prepare to wear the green and white with pride and distinction.
