24 persons killed, several others missing in Niger boat mishap

Twenty four persons were reportedly killed while several others are missing after a boat mishap occurred in Mokwa Local Government area of Niger State.

The incident occurred on Sunday, but the actual number of people onboard and the major cause as well as the time of the accident is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filling in this report.

Confirming the incident to some journalists in Minna through a telephone call, the Council Chairman Mokwa Local Government area of the state, Jibrin Muregi said rescue effort are ongoing.

He confirmed that 21 corpses have been so far recovered, adding that three community members of Gbajibo, Ekwa and Yankeiade were involved in the boat mishap.

All efforts to get the response of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Public Relations Officer, Mr Nussaini proved abortive
