3 butchers docked for fighting in public place, constituting nuisance

Three butchers on Monday appeared at the Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja for fighting in a public place and constituting a nuisance.

The police arraigned Aminu Mohammed, Isah Ibrahim and Buhari Yusuf for joint act and causing public disturbance.

The prosecutor, Insp. Stephen Eimoga, told the court that Mr. Jibrin Mohammed, Chairman of the Butchers Association at Karu Market in Abuja, had lodged a report against the accused.

He said the report was lodged at the Karu Police Station on May 15.

Eimoga said the accused persons, who are also members of the association, disobeyed a 2013 order of the Karu Magistrates’ Court to maintain peace in the market.

He said the accused persons fought in the market, knowing full well that there was an order to maintain the peace in the market.

The prosecutor told the court also that the offence contravened the provision of sections 79 and 113 of the Penal Code.

After the charges were read to them, the accused persons pleaded not guilty.

The presiding judge, Malam Hassan Ishaq, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N20,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Ishaq ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also present their national identity cards or driver’s licenses to the court registrar.

The judge also ordered each of the accused to write an undertaking to maintain peace within the Karu market area from May 2014 to June 2015.

He adjourned the matter until June 19 for hearing.(NAN)
